SMG SMGTEXYarn Feeding Technology Talk to an Engineer

Why SMG

A second source that earns the first call.

SMG is not a trading desk and not a copy shop. We machine our own components, develop electronic yarn feeding in house, and supply knitting machine builders, distributors and mills. The difference shows in what happens to a specification after the order is placed.

  • 22+ Years Component manufacturing since 2004
  • In house Manufacturing, R&D and quality
  • Second source Works beside your current supplier
  • Validated Measured on the machine before scaling

What a supply decision is judged on

  • Own manufacturing
  • Electronic yarn feeding R&D
  • Machine-builder supply
  • Testing and validation
  • Batch consistency
  • Technical response

Industry experience

Twenty-two years of parts that had to fit.

Since 2004 SMG has made knitting machine components — standard parts, wear parts, replacement parts and the feeding components around them. Most failure modes have already been seen on a running machine, so a new specification is judged quickly.

  • Since 2004 Component manufacturing and supply
  • 3 systems Circular, flat and hosiery knitting
  • In house Production, engineering and quality teams
  • One segment The yarn, from machine entry to stable stitch
  • Machine builders Long-term supply into new machine builds
  • Repeats Same specification on the tenth order

The company background, the manufacturing base and the product direction are described on the About SMG page.

Own manufacturing

Machined, assembled and inspected under one roof.

Own factory, own equipment, own engineering — the specification is judged, measured and answered by the team that produces it.

Own manufacturing

The part is made where the question is answered.

Own factory, several production lines, machining centres, CNC equipment and automated equipment — with production, engineering and quality teams under one roof. When a customer asks why a part behaves the way it does, the answer comes from the people who machined it.

  • Own factory and production lines
  • Machining centres and CNC equipment
  • Automated equipment for repetitive work
  • Assembly and adjustment in house
  • Inspection inside the production route
  • Routine models held in stock

Machine builders and second source

Three ways customers use SMG.

Most of our business is long-term supply into knitting machine builders; overseas it runs through distributors and through mills that already fit SMG parts. The same plant answers all three, so no customer talks to a reseller about their own product.

Machine builders

Components that go on a new machine.

A build schedule does not wait for a supplier to rediscover a specification. The model is confirmed against the machine, the part is supplied to it, and the next order repeats the same specification.

  • Model confirmation
  • Repeat supply
  • New builds

Second source

A qualified route beside your current supplier.

A second source is insurance, not a replacement. The specification is matched, performance is measured, and the route stays open for the months when the first supplier is stretched on lead time.

  • Same specification
  • Dual supply
  • Lead-time cover
How we validate

Flexible engineering

Small changes, answered by engineers.

An adaptation of an existing part, or a customer-specific version of it, is answered by the team that produces it. Feasibility is checked first, so a project that does not fit the process is refused before it becomes a delay.

  • Adaptation
  • Customer-specific
  • Feasibility first
Custom and OEM work

Electronic yarn feeding

Developed in house. Decided by measurement.

Feeders, storage feeders, tension control and detection are developed in house, not sourced and relabelled. A change in yarn feeding is sampled and tested against the baseline measured before it — break rate, tension and speed decide whether it stays.

Electronic yarn feeding

Development, not resale.

Electronic feeding, tension control, yarn storage and break detection are developed inside SMG around one segment of the knitting process — the part a trading company cannot answer, and the reason technical questions come back as engineering answers.

  1. 01 Electronic feeding and tension control

Feeders, storage feeders, tension control and detection are developed in house, not sourced and relabelled.

  2. 02 Proven on the machine, not on paper

A change in yarn feeding is sampled and tested against the baseline measured before it. Break rate, tension and speed decide whether it stays.

  3. 03 Technical response from the same team

A model, a photo and the working condition are usually enough for an answer, because the people who reply are the people who built it.

  4. 04 Configuration that is recorded

Settings are written down as the reference for that machine, so a later shipment behaves like the first one.

Consistency and validation

The same part, the same behaviour, the tenth time.

Consistency is what a production manager actually buys: the tenth shipment working like the first, and a measurement available when something does not. It is built into the route rather than promised at the end of it.

  • Specification confirmed What is being made, for which machine and to which drawing — agreed before production starts.
  • Inspection in the route Checked at the operation where an error would appear, instead of a final gate that hides it.
  • Functional test Moving parts and electronic units are run and checked before packing, not only measured at rest.
  • Repeat and batch consistency A repeat order is compared with the recorded reference, so a change is detected rather than discovered on the machine.

We do not publish a performance claim without a measurement behind it. Where a test record or a document applies to a specific model, ask and we will confirm what is available.

Next step

Send the machine and the problem.

Tell us the machine, the yarn you run and what you see on the fabric. You will get a straight answer on whether this is a supply question or a validation question — and the configuration that fits either way.
