Identification
Seven details, and the part is identified.
Old, discontinued and unmarked parts all go through the same check. Send what you have; we say which detail is missing.
- Old part photo The part itself, its marking, and where it sits on the machine.
- Part or model number Whatever is cast, stamped or printed on the part, or on its label.
- Machine brand and model The machine the part is fitted to, and its series or year if you know it.
- Dimensions Length, diameter, bore, thread and any key dimension, measured or scaled from the photo.
- Mounting position Where it sits, and what it drives, guides or tensions.
- Quantity How many you need now, and how often the part is replaced.
- Country Delivery country, so shipping and documents are quoted with the part.
How to photograph
Three shots identify almost every part.
Phone photos are enough. Use daylight or the machine light, keep the part still, and leave the background in — what surrounds the part matters as much as the part.
- Whole part Both sides, in focus, on a plain surface or in the hand.
- Marking close-up The cast or printed number, close enough to read without opening the file.
- Mounted position A wider shot with the surrounding machine visible, before removal.
If the part moves during operation, a short video of it running tells us more than another photo. For wear questions, keep the failed part until the case is closed.
